Enhancing Communicative Competence for Individuals who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)

This workshop was presented to 63 participants in Toronto on May 30, 2003. AAC service providers came from across Ontario and represented speech language pathologists, teachers and occupational therapists. Dr. Light spoke about the factors affecting communicative competence including linguistic, operational, social and strategic skills. She shared the latest research and developments in these areas and provided practical ways to incorporate these findings into our communication services.

With lots of humor, and personal stories, Dr. Light generously shared her extensive experience and knowledge. Participants reported that they learned a great deal at the workshop, that Dr. Light inspired them with new ideas and that her passion for people who use AAC brought a renewed enthusiasm to their work.

We will be inviting Dr. Light back to Toronto and we will keep you posted.
