About these Projects

Reducing the Risk aims to support people who use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) in acquiring tools and skills to reduce their risk for abuse and crime by:

• Exploring the safety needs of adults who have physical disabilities and who use augmentative and alternative communication.
• Providing information and resources on ways to enhance safety for people who use AAC.

Two projects have been funded by the Government of Canada's National Crime Prevention Strategy (NCPS):

• Toronto: March 2004 - March 2005
• Hamilton: September 2005 - September 2006
