Early Literacy Project
Community Workshop
April 7, 2005
Over 100 participants attended a workshop designed to share strategies
and resources developed through the Early Literacy Project. Participants
included parents, teachers in regular education classrooms, teachers in
self-contained special education classrooms, special education resource
teachers, educational assistants, speech language pathologists, occupational
therapists and administrators.
The workshop consisted of three parts:
- An overview of the research regarding early literacy for children
with disabilities;
- A sampling of resources and strategies available to support early
literacy development;
- Hands-on workstations with a range of low tech and high tech resources.
Participants were provided with a CD containing copies of
a variety of resources that were developed for the Early Literacy project.
Positive feedback was received about all three parts of the workshop.
