Speak Up has compiled the following information to assist people who use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) in accessing sexual health and counseling services in Sudbury. Please note that the agencies on this list have either attended an orientation on augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) by Speak Up, have experience working with people who use AAC, or have expressed a willingness to extend their services to people who use AAC. Speak Up provides this list as a resource, however Speak Up is not in a position to endorse individual agency services.

ICAN-CERD houses the Speak Up Resource Loan Library. This kit contains information on sexuality, disability, and safeguarding in various formats designed to be more accessible to AAC users. These items are available on loan.
Although ICAN-CERD does not provide counselling services, many staff are trained in communicating with AAC users and could provide referrals or services such as: peer support, respite, outreach, and others.

Individual or group counselling and support for women affected by sexual violence, either recent, or historical. Men in need of counselling can get assistance with a referral to another agency.
Also available: Information, referrals,
public education, legal advocacy, and accompaniment to court, hospital, police etc.

Options of care include: Emergency Medical treatment and emotional support for female and male survivors of acute sexual assaults (within the past 72 hours);

Also available if requested: collection of forensic evidence, forensic photography, and documentation.

Sexual health educator (with experience in disability) available for individual or group education around sexuality/relationships/safer sex, etc.
Services also include information, referrals, and support for those affected by HIV/AIDS as well as support for those coming out as gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgendered.

Wheelchair access to building, accessible washrooms, and sexual health counsellor who can come out to meet clients and provide services in a neutral location if necessary.

Services include crisis intervention, emotional support, and assistance with court preparation.

VWAP provides information, assistance and support to victims and witnesses of crime throughout the criminal justice process in order to increase their understanding of, and participation in, the criminal justice process.

Provides confidential and immediate support to victims of crime or disaster, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
When called, VCARS sends a team of trained volunteers to provide on-site, short-term assistance to victims and make referrals to community agencies for longer-term assistance.
