Birth Control

Speak Up 2003

This display contains words and phrases about relating to birth control.

Women who use AAC may have limited information about a range of birth control methods. They may not be involved in choosing their own methods and they may be unaware of side effects and implications. Speak Up used information from Planned Parenthood to discuss different birth control methods for women with disabilities.

Many women with disabilities report having been sterilized or given birth control methods without their knowledge or permission. Therefore it is important that AAC users have access to information about their right to choose. In addition, women who spend most of their time in wheelchairs need to know the risks and contraindications involved in using the birth control pill.
