This display is an index containing vocabularies relating to abuse.

The AAC user can use this page to select the display/page to which he/she wants to turn. This is only possible if the AAC user is familiar with the vocabulary on these displays and knows where the items are located. It is often difficult to use an index that has been developed by someone else as everyone has different ways of classifying or categorizing words and concepts.

AAC users who are unfamiliar with the location of items may need to search through the pages until they find the one they want.

Some AAC users may want you to point to each item on the index page as you read the labels out loud "Do you want to communicate about emotional abuse? a crime? A feeling ? The police? etc."

Remember to tab the displays with their labels so that the AAC user and/or communication partner can quickly flip to desired pages.

Example of use:

An AAC user points to the picture of crimes. The communication partner says, "You want the crimes page?" The AAC user indicates, "Yes" and the communication partner turns to the crime page.
